Japan Marine Supplies and Services (JMSS) is  located in the confines of the port of Cape Town, South Africa, one of the most famous and picturesque harbours in the world.

From here JMSS provides a number of significant services to the Japanese long-line fishing fleet.

Originally established in 1996 as a division of Japanese Ships Suppliers (PTY) Ltd as an agency, has now sprouted trading, courier, technical repair services and IT solutions.

The long-line fishing fleet that JMSS represents are regarded as one of the forerunners of long-line tuna fishing world-wide.  Their vast experience in the field of long-line fishing, in excess of 50 years, has seen them pioneer the way towards more sophisticated and modern technology employed on their vessels today.

Vast tonnages of fish are being discharged in the port of Cape Town on an annual basis.

Tuna a common name for any of several large, surface-dwelling, schooling fishes found in most of the waters of the world has long been valued as food fish.  A tuna has a sleek, rounded, streamline body, tapering to a narrow junction with the tail.  It is built for sustained speed. The pectoral fins fold into grooves on the body, and the eyes are flush with the body surface.

A widely forked tail with rays extending over the last vertebrae provides the driving force. On each side of the tail base are bony keels that are extensions of the caudal vertebrae.

Promotion of Access to Information

The design of the tail and the way the tendons  connect it to the swimming muscles of the body are unusually efficient. The body design is further improved by the well developed vascular system under the skin, which keeps the body temperature higher than that of the water in which the fish is swimming. This increases the power output of the muscles and speeds the nerve impulses.

Tuna Sashimi's are the target species of the Japanese long-line vessels followed by the by-catch being an assortment of Loose fish.

Our friendly competent staff embrace this industry by efficently managing our day to day business.   Modern communication technology employed by JMSS allows for the smooth and effective channeling of documents, telexes and e-mails as quotations and advices are of paramount interest to our customers.
